Stanford Baseball

The one baseball team whose games I still attend. My mom and I view the beginning of the Stanford season as both the beginning of the baseball season and the beginning of summer. Even though the first games are in January and February, once baseball has started we all seem to relax a little.

I have been going to Sunken Diamond since 1987, sitting in the same place (third base side) with the same people. It is a little weird to think about how the third-base regulars watched me grow up. It’s even more weird to see myself as an old fart watching the next generation (this means you Conor) grow up now.

The third-base regulars bit is pretty cool too. We never really see each other away from Sunken Diamond but there’s always a couple of us at each game chatting about former Stanford players, players in the pros, game observations, etc. Nus is the stats guy. My mom keeps score and pitch count. And it’s probably as close to attending church as I get.
