FC BarcelonaMy soccer/football team. Is a strange combination of the 1992 Olympics, 1994 World Cup (especially Romario and Stoitchkov), knowing Jordi (naturally) in high school, taking spanish as a second language, and becoming a design student in college which prompted me to choose to support Barça. I’ve been a pretty devoted fan since 1999 when I realized that I could read the news on Marca and Sport. Yeah, it took me over three years of using the web to figure out that I could read in other languages besides english. It felt a little like a cop-out to choose to support a team which is known as a football giant. At the same time, Barça’s almost tragic history of being the great team which couldn’t win the big one sort of jived with my mentality as a Giants fan. And, you pretty much have to choose a BIG team to support if you have any hopes of seeing it play on TV. Until recently, all we got was Champions League (and only one game per week at that). When I started following Barça, they were stuck in a pretty bad dry spell. They were still competitive (playing in Champions League) but they were not really close to winning anything. However, now that they have turned that around, won La Liga in 2005, and become sort of trendy again, I am very glad that I have a jersey from 2000 when Rivaldo was still there and before Ronaldinho and crew signed on.
