AC Siena

When I went to Italy I fell in love with the town of Siena. Coïncidentally, the Siena soccer team had just managed to secure promotion to Serie A for the first time in its history. Since I kind of felt like I should support a non-big club (as I’m already a Barça fan), I decided that I’d follow AC Siena.

As things turned out, It ended up being a lot of fun supporting a relegation candidate. It was really more exciting checking results throughout the year and Siena’s safety was only decided at the end of each season. Now, when I check scores each weekend, I appreciate Siena wins a lot more since they aren’t expected. With a big team, a loss or draw is points lost. With a relegation candidate, a win is 3 points gained and even a draw is a point closer to safety.

My biggest regret from my Italy trip ended up being that I didn’t pick up a Siena jersey. I would have liked one from the 2004 season as it was their centenary celebration but right now, any jersey would be cool.
